The city of Bari, the capital of Apulia where the story of Santa Claus begins. I imagine you did not expect this, but it is so. This Adriatic city that faces the Aegean, has been desired and invaded by Byzantines, Normans, Italian dukes and German emperors, as well as by the kings of France, Spain and even the sultans of Istanbul.

Bari Vecchia

The architecture of the ancient palaces and hidden churches, can be seen in Bari Vecchia. The white stone of Apulia is a pictorial shield against the Mediterranean sun. You will feel when you walk through the center of Bari as if time has stopped.

Narrow streets, some of them dead ends. You will see the ladies at their doorstep making the famous “orecchiette”, a variety of ear-shaped pasta from Apulia, hidden squares and alleys that you will fall in love with.

Basílica San Nicola di Bari

This place is said to be the inspiration of Santa Claus. This gift for the eyes contains the best samples of sculpture from the Romanesque of Pullés. The entrance portico is impressive, framed by two huge pilasters that rest on columns. On the central cover, the two lions that support it stand out.

Bari fortress

Bordering the old town we will arrive at the Norman-Swabian castle of Bari, symbol of the city of Bari. This medieval fortification dates from 1132, surrounded by the old moat.

Lungomare Promenade

The promenade is 9 km long, being the best time to visit it at sunset. On the walk itself we will find the fish market.

Petruzzelli Theater

The acoustics of this theater is impressive and one of the most beautiful opera houses in Italy, being able to hold up to 4000 spectators.
