Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, the country of the Thai, was founded in 1792 by King Rama I. Said king ordered the construction of a palace on the other bank of the Chao Phraya River, so that if there were an attack he could flee. On the other shore there was a town called Krung Thep “City of Angels” which in time would adopt the name of Bangkok.
Its name comes from a small nearby fishing village called Ban Kok “village of olive trees”.
¿What is Bangkok?
It is a city crossed by numerous channels because the city was created imitating the ancient capital Ayutthaya.
Thailand and Bangkok have a peculiarity and that is that they were never colonized by the European powers. This independence came at a price. Siam had to sign a trade agreement beneficial to British interests and cede three southern provinces that are now part of Malaysia.
From the end of the great war until the 1990s, Thailand has been the protagonist of numerous coups, but today it is defined as a modern democracy.
